Three suggestions for wine lovers at our La Manga Club Apartments and Villas

Many of the owners and guests of our villas and apartments at La Manga Club originally opted for a property in our resort inspired by the quality of our golf and tennis facilities. Nonetheless, just a short while later, most become aware of the extraordinary culture and heritage of this area, combining nature and history, leisure and gastronomy. One example are the three D.O.s located here – Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas -, which, though they may not enjoy the international recognition of other Spanish veterans, are still quite interesting for wine aficionados. For those looking for a new adventure with which to begin the year, following the tracks of the Murcia region’s wines can offer a number of activities and opportunities for discovery. Here are three ways to breathe in these wines that have so much to tell us.

A bicycle journey through the vineyards

For those interested in recovering from the excesses of the holidays, here’s a different way to get to know the extraordinary landscapes that surround the cultivation of some of the best known D.O. Jumilla wines. This is a non-guided bike route followed by a guided tour of one of the bodegas in the area and concluding with a wine tasting and snacks. Those interested will need to take on the 133km trip to Jumilla themselves, but the tour includes bike rental, the bodega visit and the wine tasting.

Visit to the Bodegas Juan Gil

Don’t miss getting to know one of Murcia’s classic wine producers or trying some of its charismatic and prestigious wines, well deserving of their many international awards. 10 kilometres to the northeast of Jumilla you’ll find this bodega whose warehouse holds up to 3000 barrels. Visits here are between 90 and 110 minutes long and include a tour of the facilities, a tasting of 3 wines and some light refreshments. Reservations required.

Enoquedadas

The Castaño Bodegas, D.O. Yecla, aim to modernize our relationship with wine through an interesting new initiative: their so-called “enoquedadas”, in which traditional visits to the vineyard are combined with scavenger hunts, activities for the whole family, hikes, and concerts. Call to find out the date of the next event, or you can even gift an inscription to a friend or family member who likes wine and good company. Plan for a whole day away, leaving La Manga Club early and returning at sunset.
